In July 2009 ceramic and glas designer Isabel Hamm asked us to experiment with Keraflex. The ceramic foil can almost be processed like paper and the task for the one week workshop was to build lighting objects. It came to know that during the burning process the material becomes very flexible before it hardens, which made it difficult to keep the desireable shape. Working with folding techniques helped to counteract this effect. Still, after burning the 0.5mm thin foil turned out to be very fragile. This led to an ironical idea of small folded packing cases who pretend to have fragile content while they are fragile itself.

Im Juli 2009 stellte uns die Keramik- und Glas-Designerin Isabel Hamm das Material Keraflex vor. Keraflex ist eine keramische Folie, welche sich fast wie Papier bearbeiten lässt. Die Aufgabe lautete ein Leuchtenobjekt aus Keraflex zu gestalten, das den Eigenschaften, die das Material mit sich bringt, gerecht wird. Es stellte sich heraus, dass das Material während des Brennvorgangs extrem flexibel wird, sodass es selten in der gewünschten Form aushärtet. Nach dem Aushärten ist das Material zwar steif, aber dafür auch sehr brüchig. Durch Faltung der Folie hielt die Form auch im Ofen und war ausgehärtet relativ stabil, was zu der ironischen Idee von gefalteten Miniatur-Umzugskartons führte. Sie geben strahlend vor Fragiles zu beinhalten, während sie selbst äußerst fragil sind.
